Technology

Advancements made in dental technology over the past several years are simply incredible. Many of these new methods and equipment make our jobs easier, but more importantly, they allow us to provide the best possible oral health care for you and your family. That’s why Dr. Williamson and our staff of trained dental professionals utilize a variety of cutting-edge dental technologies in our San Antonio, Texas office. Here are a few excellent examples:

iTero Scanner

If you’ve ever had a dental impression made, you probably remember the traditional way of doing it, which meant holding a tray full of dental putty in your mouth until the putty became firm enough to form an impression. You probably also remember exactly how uncomfortable that was! Fortunately, modern dental technology allows us to make digital impressions of patients’ teeth. The iTero scanner provides digital images that are viewable immediately on a computer screen, and can even produce an image of what your teeth will look like after treatment.

Lasers

Use of lasers in dentistry have, in many ways, revolutionized oral health care. We’re pleased to utilize two types of lasers in our San Antonio office:

  • The Epic Diode Laser – This instrument is specifically designed for soft tissue procedures, such as treating gum disease by eliminating bacteria inside the patient’s mouth, whitening teeth, and minimizing the pain associated with TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder.
  • The BIOLASE Waterlas iPlus Laser – This instrument combines laser energy with a cool stream of water and is an excellent way to remove tooth decay without the need for traditional dental drilling. The laser is also used to treat periodontal disease without the swelling, pain, and lengthy recovery times associated with traditional treatment.

Digital Radiography

This cutting-edge technology involves use of an electronic sensor to capture and store digital images of a patient’s teeth and jaw on a computer, as opposed to traditional X-rays. Digital radiography produces much less radiation than old style X-rays, along with superior quality images.

Intra Oral Photography

In additional to digital radiography, intra oral photography allows us to take clear and precise photos of every tooth. This technology enables Dr. Williamson to instantly detect issues such as tooth decay, gum disease and tooth abnormalities.
