Orthodontics San Antonio
For many years, people who wanted straighter teeth had only one option: to wear traditional metal braces for a period that typically lasted from 18 to 24 months, but could take as long as 3 years. And while there’s no doubt that metal braces are effective, they definitely have some downsides. The first and most obvious is that metal braces are very apparent and visible each time you smile. But that’s not all. Metal braces can irritate the person’s cheeks and gums; it’s difficult to adequately clean your teeth when you wear braces; and some foods are off limits with metal braces. These are just some of the reasons why Dr. Williamson is pleased to offer his San Antonio, Texas area patients with one of the most popular recent advancements in orthodontics technology: Invisalign®
What You Should Know about Invisalign®
The Invisalign® method for straightening teeth involves the patient wearing clear plastic aligners for a period of months. The process begins when Dr. Williamson uses digital scans to create a model of your teeth. That information is then sent to an Invisalign® lab, where your custom-made aligner trays are created. Once Dr. Williamson fits you with your first set of trays, you’ll wear them for a few weeks, after which you’ll return to our office for a new set of trays. This process is repeated over a period of months. At the end of the treatment, you’ll be enjoying a straighter, more beautiful smile than you might have ever imagined possible!
The Advantages of Invisalign®
This remarkable technology offers patients many advantages over traditional braces, including:
- The trays are virtually invisible — Invisalign® trays are made from a clear plastic material that is virtually invisible to other people.
- Shorter treatment time – The Invisalign® method typically takes only 12 to 18 months to straighten your teeth.
- More comfortable – Most patients report that Invisalign® trays are much more comfortable to wear than metal braces.
- Oral hygiene is easier to maintain – Because patients can remove their aligner trays to brush and floss, they are better able to maintain good oral hygiene during the treatment period.
